4k Doesn’t Mean “Good” or “Better”

Posted by Eric Hansen - April 18, 2013 - Color Grading, News, Production

Links to this TV have been floating around Twitter and my email Inbox. Here’s the link to TigerDirect.

$1500 for a 50″ 4k TV!

A little digging also finds that this same company, Seiki, sells a 40″ 1080p TV for $320.

$320!

How awesome can a $320 1080p TV look? Keep that in mind before you buy this company’s 4k TV for your edit suite.

Just because it’s 4k doesn’t mean it’s going to look good. Remember the TVs from the early days of HD? For $1500, there’s no way that it’s a high quality panel. It’s probably one of the panels that LG rejected for their high end buyers.

Calm down people. These are still the early days.

Of course, “4k doesn’t mean it’s good or better” can apply to WAY more than just TVs…
