Yes, Final Cut Pro 7 Works on Lion and Mountain Lion

Posted by Eric Hansen - January 19, 2013 - Apple, SANs and Post Production, Production

People have been asking me if Final Cut Pro 7 works on Lion (Mac OS X 10.7) and/or Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8) and the answer is YES.

YES.

Ignore what the employees at the Apple Store are saying. Either they don’t know, or they’re trying to sell you newer computers and software.

The more important thing to watch out for is that all your third-party devices, such as capture cards, will work on the newer OS’s. That you’ll have to research for yourself. But I do have one client with AJA Kona LH cards that don’t work with Adobe CS6 on the newer OS’s. So do your research.

    So how?

      Hey Kelly.

I’m not sure what you mean. My laptop and office Mac Pro use Lion 10.7.5 and FCP7 works just fine. My home Mac Pro uses Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and FCP7 works just fine on that.

I’m trying to install FCP 7 on my new MacBook Pro 13.3″, and it installs fine, but when I try to open the program, it immediately says it has “unexpectedly quit.” Any suggestions to what I should do?
